Hong
Kong O! Day (the short form of "Hong Kong Orienteering Day"),
the largest city orienteering competition in town, was organized
for the first time in 2003 by The Salvation Army. With the slogan "Embracing
orienteering, with each step we are taking", the event aims
to encourage people of different ages to explore their surroundings
and to foster friendship and team spirit through competition.
All funds raised in the event will be used to support the charity
work of The Salvation Army, benefiting different people in need
in our community.
Why is this called "Hong Kong O! Day"?
Chung Yeung Festival is the best season to put off our routine work
and join some outdoor activities with friends and relatives. On the
other hand, orienteering is a competition that can be more widely promoted
to the public. It is a challenge to participants physical strength
and logical thinking, while it suits people in all ages and can take
place in the format of a team or an individual. Therefore the Army
would like to pick the date of Chung Yeung Festival to organize "Hong
Kong O! Day" every year and invite the people of Hong Kong to join
it, aiming at promoting it to every part of the city.
