Miramar ‘811 Denim Day’ for The Salvation Army
The Army’s officers put on their jeans together
Miramar Shopping Centre
today (11th August 2006) initiated a charitable event, ‘811
Denim Day’, to raise fund for The Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau
Command. Companies and organisations were invited to join the event
and encourage their staff members to donate HK$30 to wear their
chicest pair of jeans to the office. As the beneficiary, The Salvation
Army showed their support into action. The corps officers (clergy) who
always dress in uniform at workplace also temporarily took off their
uniform and put on their jeans together with the Army’s frontline
staff.
Led by Lieut-Colonel Alfred Tsang, Officer Commanding for The
Salvation Army Hong Kong and Macau Command, corps officers found their
long-forgotten jeans in their wardrobes and wore their pairs to attend
the prayer meeting at the headquarters of The Salvation Army. This
might be the one time you see the Salvation Army corps officers put on
jeans together at one occasion. The Salvation Army is a Christian
organisation in military structure. All the clergy and church members
are required to dress in uniform in order to highlight their ‘warfare’
against evil. The design of uniform is various from country to country
according to their climate and culture. The uniform in Hong Kong is
mainly in navy blue jacket with white shirt.
The ‘811 Denim Day’ was well supported by more than
30 companies and organisations. Lieut-Colonel Alfred Tsang expressed heartfelt
gratitude to Miramar Shopping Centre for organising this innovative
fundraising event for the Army.
The ‘811 Denim Day’ is one of the biggest charitable programmes under
the activity ‘1000 Jeans @ Miramar’ which was launched in July. A
series of jeans-related events had been held from July thru August to
raise fund for The Salvation Army.
