Child Sponsorship Development Programme - China

The Salvation Army has been involved in development and emergency relief work in the Mainland of China for years, and has commenced the "Child Sponsorship Development Programme - China" in order to improve study and living conditions (such as purchasing of stationeries, teaching materials, extra-curricular reading books and clothing and also improving meals and boarding conditions) for children from poor families and to lay a strong foundation towards poverty alleviation. At present, the Programme is supporting children from Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan, Shandong, Gansu, Henan and Inner Mongolia etc.. Scholarships for junior and senior high school students, and students with admission to university are also supported through this Programme. Other education-related projects viz. school construction, school equipment and providing teachers' training is also being supported.

The "Child Sponsorship Development Programme - China" aims at providing financial assistance to school-age children who dwell in poverty-stricken areas in China. A small sum of $100 per month from a donor is sufficient to improve study and living conditions of a sponsored child. A junior or senior high school student, or a student accepted to study at university can also be benefited, by assisting with boarding fees, living expenses and miscellaneous fees that may arise in relation to their studies. Economic burdens of the deprived families will thus be eased.

By participating in the "Child Sponsorship Development Programme - China", you will receive the following:

- A Photograph of Your sponsored child: Through a one-to-one sponsorship, you will have a clear idea of who you are sponsoring.

- Background information: This allows you to have a basic understanding of the sponsored child.

- Progress reports: You will know how well your sponsored child is performing at school by receiving an annual year-end school report.

- Communication: Your care and support will be the driving forces of your sponsored child. You are encouraged to send greetings and establish a friendship with your sponsored child as this can be a life changing blessing to him or her.
